“Just because you can't experience everything doesn't mean you shouldn't experience anything.” -Nicola Yoon
Yoon’s life while writing the novel Everything, Everything
Nicola Yoon who wrote Everything, Everything, was inspired to write it when her families cameo almost went wrong. She was also becoming a new mom and she went to be a good mom. She thought her four-month-old daughter would catch a cold and eat dirt and somehow crawl out of her house. And she wondered what life would be like for a mom who had to take care of an 18-year-old the same way you take care of a baby http://ew.com/books. She was also inspired by her biracial daughter.
The comparison
Yoon wondered how difficult it would be to raise an 18-year-old girl the same way you would raise a baby. While her daughter was still a toddler, so that is what she wrote about. She expressed what she thought through the novel. With a toddler, you are always having to keep an eye on them. And that is what Maddy Whittier’s mom had to do, always keep an eye on her. Maddy had a nurse who watched her while her mom was at work. Maddy could not go outside because she has SCID, basically, she will die if she goes outside. So her house has all of the special equipment so she can live a somewhat normal life while inside her house. Maddy could not leave her house without getting sick, kind of just like a toddler. A lot of times toddlers will get sick if they are in public places touching things, but Maddy was a little different. Maddy could not even take a breath of fresh air. Yoon definitely showed the comparison in Maddy and her four-month-old daughter.
